How to identify one?The common snipe is a 26 to 29 cm long with a 44 to 50 cm wingspread. The female is heavier and has a longer beak. The beak is 6 to 7 cm long. The chest is bold with brownish strips with a white belly and a rusty tail. It flight is rapid and zigzagging. It has a big body and short legs.

Where do they live? During the summer they live in Alaska, Canada, western and northern U.S. In the winter, the live on the coasts and southern half of U.S. They prefer fields and ponds or wet meadows.

How do they nest? The males have to a fight over their home or nesting range. When a male comes from a different males nest or home, the male that lives there comes in front of the other snipe as a warning to get out
